Help us replace the East roof on St. Nicholas Church
Situated on the approach to Hengistbury Head in Southbourne, this unique building has been part of the local community since 1961. For the last 60 years, the roof has withstood all the wind, salt spray and rain that comes from being in such an exposed position, but it now needs replacing so residents and visitors to this beautiful part of the Dorset coast can continue to appreciate the unusual design of this important building.
Last year, we launched a crowd funding campaign to help pay for the necessary work on the roof. At the end of 2021 we had raised a little over £4,000, leaving us another £21,000 to find in 2022. It would be fantastic if you are able to help by donating through the website or via our Just Giving page:
As the original roofing panels are now obsolete, we are awaiting planning approval from BCP Council for an alternative solution. Unfortunately, the roof is now letting water in, which is causing damage inside of the building above the font, close to the altar, and whilst a temporary repair should keep most of the rain out, we urgently need help raising the necessary funds to complete this work in 2022.
During the pandemic, our regular church income has significantly reduced, and the Parish really needs your help now to complete this important project. We would be grateful for anything you are able to give, and your donation will help preserve this unique landmark for decades to come.
